The pro continental squad of RusVelo opened this season with winning in the capital of 2014 winter Olympics. They were able to take all three podium spots after climbing a long final ascent to the ski resort Rosa Khutor. Sergey Firsanov crossed the line ahead of his teammates Aleksandr Foliforov and Artem Ovechkin. The final 20 kilometers of the 168 km-long GP were hard work for the peloton since there was a climb of 900 meters of nearly vertical ascent and many steep ramps. RusVelo had the tactic of brining its climbers to the bottom of the ascent in the best possible condition and then letting them strike a final blow. The plan worked out.
